  2. How did it change after the group dissolved?
  3. Look at connections with other artists working at the time.
  4. What was distinctive about the artists of this group?

2. Select two artists we’ve discussed in class who have different styles, but similar subject matter.  Write a short biography of each of the artists and then discuss the similarities and differences between their approaches to the same subject.  You cannot use the images from our first quiz.

3. Much of the work of work we’ve discussed this semester was heavily criticized at the time it was made.  Select a work that we’ve discussed this semester and research the criticism it received.  Find a contemporary work or artist who has received similar criticism.  Write a short biography of each of the artists.

  1. Consider how and why the works were challenged and upset critics.
  2. Was the controversial reception related to the representation, the medium, the scale, the cost, or the location of the work?  Find at least two references to the contemporary work.

4. Research two artist/architects who designed furniture.  Write a short biography of each of the designers.

  1. What effect did their design have on society at the time it was created?
  2. Is the design still in production today?

4. Several of the artists we have discussed this semester were husband and wife.  Write a short biography of each artist and then discuss how each one’s work influenced (or didn’t) the other.
Extra Credit – Add an additional artist/designer to your paper to make it an 8-10 page paper.  Make sure to choose an artist who supports your thesis idea.  Up to 25 points
